UN sounds alarm as drought impacts over 4.5 million in Somalia

The United Nations humanitarian agency on Friday warned that over 4.5 million people in Somalia are facing severe food insecurity and water scarcity due to the ongoing drought, as the country grapples with its worst water crisis in four decades.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a statement that four consecutive failed rainy seasons have devastated communities and led to widespread displacement, with over 1 million people forced to flee their homes in search of food and water.
