Union and Sergio Tacchini reveal their first collaboration
The Italian sports brand Sergio Tacchini has just unveiled its first collaboration with the Los Angeles multi-brand, Union.
A project that, according to both entities, is based on the long-standing friendship between Chris Gibbs, owner of Union, and Sung Choi, Sergio Tacchini’s creative director for the past two years, who also heads his footwear brand, Clae, and who designed Union’s “Frontman” logo.
A logo designed in the early 90s, and that recently reappeared in the Union identity in 2021. The print of Sidney Poitier’s haloed silhouette from the 1961 film “A Raisin in the Sun”, was for many years refused exploitation by the descendants of Sidney Poitier.
The collaboration was presented as a preview at a dinner reserved for friends of the brand, the press and influencers. Also present were Chris Gibbs, founder of Union, tattoo artist Dr. Woo or John Gray, founder of the food collective Ghetto Gastro. The collection born of their collaboration is given the mission to reinterpret “the heritage of Sergio Tacchini in a contemporary vision.”
A collection that includes a jacket and white sweatpants in twill with a straight and classic cut crossed by a green stripe, a navy blue tennis polo and shorts, a T-shirt and a hoodie with the Sergio Tacchini logo and the Union logo on the back, a bob and two models of caps where the logos intersect.
Sergio Tacchini, the Italian sportswear brand founded by the eponymous tennis professional in 1966 and owned since 2019 by US investment funds Twin Lakes Capital and B. Riley Principal Investments, has recently been bought by South Korean apparel group F&F
The collection will be available on the Sergio Tacchini eshop and in the Union store starting October 20.
